A few years ago I came across a quote (probably from a poet) which read
بين منطوق لم يقصد ومقصود لم ينطق تضيع له كثرة من المحبة
Between what is said and not meant, and what is meant and not said, most of love is lost.
…and it has stuck with me since. It might sound confusing, but when read carefully, it is very easy to comprehend and encompasses a lot of information that is rather self-explanatory.
When we say things that we don’t truly mean, whether pleasant or unpleasant, it can erode trust and create confusion. Love is lost because genuine emotions are hidden behind false words, causing a disconnect between what’s said and what’s felt.
And sometimes, we hesitate to express our true feelings or needs due to fear, insecurity, or a desire to avoid conflict. This can lead to missed opportunities for understanding and connection. Love is lost in this scenario because the depth of our emotions remains unspoken, leaving a gap in any interpersonal relationship.
In both cases, effective, honest and kind communication is essential to bridge the gap between what is said and what is meant. Clear heartfelt communication fosters trust and prevents any future regrets.
Allahu Akbar! Quite touching and makes a lot of sense. Not only does it explain the situation, but also butresses one of the major reasons why relationships suffer and even break up today.
Baarakallaahu feekum.
