I was just having a conversation with
and it reminded me about the last session at Deen Reflections (“a safe space for young Muslim women to come together once a month to discuss and reflect on the Deen, life, and sisterhood”).Yes, I belong to light mode gang. Don't judge. And that's not the point.
At the gathering yesterday, we talked A LOT about gratitude and du’ā.
On gratitude…
Light, but actually deep, the power ‘light' (pun intended) went off shortly after the start of the event. In the previous gathering, we had whined about how the AC wasn't consistently cool.
Today, we spent most of the event with windows open and occasionally made jokes about how our ingratitude had led to our situation.
“لئن شكرتم لأزيدنّكم”
“If you give thanks, I will give you more”1
Light, but deep.
On du’ā…
Perhaps if we made du’ā for gratitude, we would be more grateful and thankful for the blessings, big and small, in our lives, and in turn, we get even more of those blessings. The Prophet ﷺ taught Mu’ādh رضي الله عنه and by extension, us, not to miss supplicating after every salāh saying:
اللّهُـمَّ أَعِـنِّي عَلـى ذِكْـرِكَ وَشُكْـرِك ، وَحُسْـنِ عِبـادَتِـك
"Allāhumma a'innī 'alā dhikrika wa shukrika, wa husni 'ibādatika"
"O Allāh, help me remember You, give gratitude to You and worship You in the best manner"2
…which reminds me,
…for Ramadān Daily this year, I will be sharing my favorite supplications daily through this little newsletter, in shā Allāh. If you would like to receive them in your inbox, subscribe here:
