Speaking from experience as most of us have probably had, it is not a good idea to stay awake the whole night in fear of sleeping through it because your eyes and body eventually begin to give in at the time you need to stay awake, thereby making it all counterproductive.
While going to bed early does not necessarily guarantee that we wake up early, it undoubtedly makes it a tad easier because we would’ve had (near) sufficient rest/sleep.
Another key point is to monitor your portion. Sufyān al-Thawrī (رحمه الله) said:
“If you want your body to be healthy and to sleep less, then eat less.”
