The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“The son of Ādam does not fill any vessel worse than his stomach; for the son of Ādam a few mouthfuls are sufficient to keep his back straight. If you must fill it, then one-third for food, one-third for drink and one-third for air.”
Al-Tirmidhī, 2380; Ibn Mājah, 3349.
Not only is overeating medically and spiritually unhealthy, overeating at iftār can (and will) make you feel heavy, lazy and discouraged to stand for tarāwīh, or even drive you straight into food coma.
The struggle not to gourmandize after a long day of hunger is real, but keep in mind the bigger picture and save the dessert for later (or monitor your portion if you must have a little bit of everything at once).
Find your balance; eat just enough to gain energy for tarāwīh and not too much that it takes out the sweetness in this beautiful and rewarding act of worship.
Really enjoying the daily nuggets, Sayyida. Jazakhillahu khairan.
