This is probably not a hard one because everyone is eagerly anticipating the first sip of water, but we can sometimes become distracted by certain tasks — especially kitchen work — or while we’re engrossed in ‘ibādah (worship).
Muslim (1099) narrated that ‘Ā’ishah (رضي الله عنها) was asked about a man among the companions of Muhammad (ﷺ) – ‘Abd-Allāh ibn Mas’ūd – who hastened to pray Maghrib and break the fast. She said:
“This is what the Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) used to do”.
“The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) used to break his fast with fresh dates before praying. If there were no fresh dates, then with dried dates, and if there were no dried dates, then with a few sips of water.”
